Engagement Session Styling Guide

When you start your wedding planning journey, it often begins with the start of booking an engagement session. Oftentimes, these photos are used for your save the dates, sharing the announcement with friends and family, photo books, displaying them at the reception, etc. But what goes into planning your engagement session?

Here are some helpful tips that will help make the engagement session seamless, romantic, and genuine.

Color Matching

Your engagement session should feel relaxed and romantic. Neutrals photograph beautifully and ensure the focus stays on your connection. Recommended colors to wear are cream, white, brown, black, jeans, earthy colors. Keep your background in mind when choosing outfit colors. For example, avoid wearing green if your background is green and wooded to avoid the chance of blending in.

Do’s

DO stick to solid, neutral colors.

DO coordinate your outfits.
Don’t be afraid to exactly match the same color of tops & bottoms, this can turn out cute! See below for photo examples. 

DO use textures like linen, denim, knit.

DO keep accessories minimal.

Things to Avoid

AVOID busy patterns like stripes, florals, plaid. These can sometimes look weird in the camera and can be distracting.

AVOID logos or graphic tees.

AVOID neon or bright colors.

AVOID distracting jewelry or flashy shoes.

Extra Things to Consider

Try outfits on together ahead of time. If you need a second opinion, send your outfit ideas my way and I will be happy to help you pick!

Steam or iron your clothing.

Bring a backup outfit and comfortable shoes. This is super helpful if we are hiking to your photo destination!
