Wedding Flowers Checklist - Steps to Perfect Wedding Flowers

Where do you start when it comes to wedding florals?
Danielle from Dashing Designs LLC shares some of her expertise in her field of the wedding business- florals! She has been making floral dreams come true for years for not only weddings but other events as well. She not only creates floral art from real flowers, but specializes in fake, or faux, florals. Her favorite thing about being a florist is bringing couple’s wedding visions to life through her floral design art. Danielle shares her tips and advice on fake and real flowers below- the best of both worlds!

1.) Plan your budget- Knowing exactly how much money you want to invest in florals and decor is highly important. Setting these boundaries will help keep you focused on your goal for your wedding day. The average investment amount for florals is around $2,500-$5,000.

2.) Book your venue BEFORE you plan your florals and decor. Why? Because the type of venue you choose will determine what you are allowed to do in reference to design. For example, some venues do not allow open flames (no candles allowed) and if you are a candle lover and absolutely want candles in your ceremony and/or reception tables, you must partner with a venue that will allow you to do so.

3.) Going the route of fresh flowers - we recommend going with fresh blooms that are in season, according to the region where your wedding will be located. This will help you cut cost on expensive imports and shipping. If you choose fresh flowers but your budget does not allow a grand scale design, opt for heavier fresh greenery in your designs with minimal blooms. This will allow you to have a grand scale look with just enough pop of color without breaking the budget. Peonies, ranunculus, garden roses, hydrangea and silver dollar eucalyptus are the most requested florals.

4.) Determining your Approximate investment- although there is no “exact formula” to what florals and decor should cost, average rule of thumb for floral budget is 10-20% of your total wedding budget. Also, guest count plays a huge role in budget (more guest tables = more flowers = more money.)

5.) Faux (silk) vs. Fresh - the most common misconception is that faux flowers cost less than fresh...this is not always the case. Faux florals are manufactured, and in some instances, cost more per stem than fresh flowers. However, if comparing investment costs, long term, faux florals are the better option, as they can be reused, resold, and enjoyed longterm.

6.) Your Photos - It’s important to think about the photographs that are going to be taken in relation to the florals. Why? If you are drawn to a specific style, it’s important that your photographers editing style is similar to your vision boards.

Dashing Designs offers a wide variety of essential oil scents that can be added to any of the silk blooms and typically books out from 6 months to one year before a wedding date.
