Your Engagement Session-Tips and Advice

Planning your engagement session can sound stressful, but I'm here to help! Here's a few fun tips and advice to help make the planning process less stressful and more fun so you can have a perfect engagement session!

PICKING A LOCATION

WHAT KIND OF COUPLE ARE YOU? Are you outdoorsy? Maybe a great park with some beautiful hiking trails overlooking a big landscape would be perfect. Or are you more of the metropolitan type? Consider a session downtown with the cityscape. Artsy? We could go to your favorite art gallery, local coffee shop or bookshop, etc! There's so many different options for your engagement session. If your needing help finding a location, ask yourself what you guys like to do for fun together, and go from there! Some cute ideas- ice cream date, pizza date in the park, donut shop date, movie night!

  • IN-HOME LIFESTYLE SESSION: A great way to think outside the box! This would be a fun, laid back session perfect for the homebodies. Wear pj's or some cute every day outfits and utilize cuddling on the couch, baking together in the kitchen, or anything you guys love to do together at home! Did someone say movie night? Maybe even consider booking an air bnb and stay the night after your session!

WAYS TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

  • Get your ring cleaned beforehand for detail shots

  • Do a trial run with your hair & makeup artist

  • Get dressed up and go out for dinner afterwards (if you are the fancy type!)

DO A CHAMPAGNE POP

These always turn out fun! Bring an extra bottle just Incase you need a practice round. Maybe bring an extra pair of clothes too- just Incase you do a session in the water!

POSING TIPS

When you book your engagement/wedding with me, I'll ask if there's any specific poses you liked that you'd want to incorporate. I highly recommend utilizing Pinterest and searching "engagement session poses". I have a Pinterest and you can share your board with me! you can also check out my Instagram for poses that you may like. Not sure of what poses and just want me to take the reigns? That's fine too! I have experience in great poses to get those natural smiles and moments. I usually like to incorporate both into your engagement session so you can get a great variety of photos. You'll also get some great shots of your engagement ring of course!

  • Some of my favorite pose prompts

  • Practice your first dance

  • whisper in her ear, in your most seductive voice, what you had for breakfast

  • Hold hands, lightly jog towards me and look at each other

WHAT TO WEAR

Neutral tones are always appealing and work great for color tones when editing (they also go great with any background!) Browns/tans, black, cream/white or dark greens are all great. Think of earthy tones. Try to compliment each other by offsetting colors.

For example, you could wear a cream shirt and he could wear black! It will help contrast the colors, bringing great tones and contrast to your images. I recommend staying away from bright colors and patterns like pinks and blues as well as checkered shirts/strong stripes. If your ever in doubt, send me a photo of your outfits and I'd be happy to offer advice/recommendations!

When you book your wedding with me, I will be there during the entire planning process. I am always here for you when you have questions and need advice! When you book a wedding package with an engagement session, you'll receive a questionnaire that will help us decide where's best for your perfect engagement session as well if you are in doubt on picking a location.
